A few years ago, during a tremendously difficult season of my life, my beautiful friend gave me a gift of prayer flags, much like the flags one would see in pictures on top of Mt. Everest. These beautifully hand crafted flags had the brilliant work of a local artist painted on them. Some of the words read, "Let go", "Trust the Process", and "Radiate". When I first read the words, I thought they represented mountains ahead for me to climb - lessons for me to learn along the way through the rocky terrain. Jess then explained to me that these bright rectangles of recycled fabrics and cloth are suspended in sacred places that are often in stark, high altitude landscapes. She helped me realize that once you've reached the flags, you've climbed that mountain. Her gift symbolized that though the path had been undesired, the climb was purposed. Even greater still was God’s banner of love over me in the midst of the climb. I am reminded that sometimes we are sent up the mountain not only for ourselves but also to make a way for the next wanderer who is struggling to climb. Two years later, I’m learning to lace up my hiking boots, lay down my heavy pack of burdens and enjoy the peaks and valleys of the climb because I have been set free! If the son has set you free, you are free indeed! Now go on, blaze a trail with the confidence in knowing that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
